Hello, and welcome to Nice News, the home of me, Jackie Buxton, a writer, editor and teacher who is sick of moaning about the state of the world and KNOWS there is soooo much good out there.
So I’ve decided to shout about it.
It might be seemingly small: a book I’ve loved.
It might be huge: a breakthrough in cancer treatment (thanks, often, to my eldest daughter for news of those)
Or maybe silly-nice: I’m a sucker for those clever people being witty and stopping us taking ourselves too seriously
You know, sometimes it will be a silver lining, a speck of light, and there’ll be a strolling-sprint through the tricky bit, first
And probably my favourite of all: news that I/we just pick up which is simply life-affirmingly gorgeous.
Please, join me for the ride!
And share, please do share your stories. Let’s redress the balance, let’s read about more good than bad.
After all, as my wonderful mother famously once responded to the teenage me in the mid-eighties – taking a little time out from Wham and The Housemartins for a spot of Weltschmerz to ask her how she coped with all the horrors – she reminds herself that there is more good than bad.
That’s why the bad makes it onto The News,” she said, “because if it was wide-spread and permanent, it wouldn’t be ‘news’ would it?
Brilliant.
So, while I get my act together, I’ve moved my blog posts over here. I shall leave you with Persistent Acts of Kindness, something I wrote a couple of years ago.
PS. Apologies for the brief, and not to be repeated, foray back into that Covid place. It’s just too soon for me to reminisce in any form about that particular period in our lives, so please excuse the scene setting here. I can assure you that in all things other than that, this post is most certainly Covid-free.
Thanks for reading. I’d love to hear your thoughts, please join the chat below 😊
Hooray for good news. More please!
